A festive Six on Saturday from me showing bits that have been dried from the garden and then used as christmas decorations.
Start with a classic, poppy seed heads dry so easily and always look fabulous , I always get in trouble for the seeds they drop everywhere whilst they are drying but they are an added bonus for next year once swept up and saved in an envelope.
A new experiment this year, I picked up some braken whilst walking the dog and once dry have sprayed it to add some height and structure.
Along with the trusty Hydrangea I have sacrificed the odd flower from my Miscanthus sinensis to add a more delicate flower head.
My absolute favourites, the Alliums. The shubertii I have had for a couple of years and they make me long for next May and all the new alliums I have planted to be flowering. Of course, it wouldn’t be a gardeners Christmas without some greenery to show off the bling.
Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Bay ensure a fragrant Festive Season along side the classic Holly and Ivy.
One of the last gardening jobs I had to do was sadly remove a Magnolia stellata. I salvaged some branches to add to christmas decorations never imagining the flowers would be formed enough to open being cut this early and yet one is starting to open. I can’t wait to see how many will open fully. A White Christmas , maybe.
Finally from me, my Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Diane’ is in delightful full bloom for Christmas. I love these red spidery flowers. They are like the bows and ribbons on top of the presents. Merry Christmas and Happy Solstice everybody. Deep breathe, we can make it through. X
